Our District 8 churches came together to Holly to start the first annual Let’s Move Day 5K.
In the past our church/school has held 5K’s but primarily to our church and school community. This our district pastors dreamed of starting something much bigger. To hold a 5K that would bring people from different parts of where are area churches are located and more. We connected the name and date to our denomination’s Let’s Move Day initiative.
We also wanted to promote a healthier America and had health screenings, that tested for blood pressure and blood sugar. More types of screenings were planning, but a last minute unavailability of a health van prevented those additional tests. Children also had extra activities set-aside for them. Three big inflatable slides and walls allowed children of all ages to enjoy laughs, thrills and friendship, while parents socialized and got to enjoy snacks.
Plans and ideas are still ongoing for the continual development of this community event. Each year we are projected to increase registrants and activities at the 5K.
All the guest that we spoke to expressed their satisfaction with the entire event. The route was very popular as it took runners and walkers through beautiful Holly along with a few parks. Many parents specified that they appreciated that there was activities for their children that they had not seen in other 5Ks. During the early part of the next year, you’ll hear more news for the 2015 Let’s Move Day 5K.
This year we had 106 individuals register. Below are some pictures.
