Adventist wins Silver medal in London Olympics

Seventh-day Adventist marathon runner Abel Kirui won the silver medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games.  When he crossed the finish line the went down to his knees and prayed.

Up to this point, Kirui hasn’t had conflicts with his observance of the Sabbath, since marathons are usually held on Sundays.  He also says that wherever he goes to compete, he goes with his Bible, his Sabbath School quarterly, and makes sure to take time to pray.

He has plans to help the Adventist infrastructure in Kenya which include churches, schools and a hospital.

Kirui says of those who now recognize him “I want them to know that it is the power of God that keeps me running. All the time, the power of God.”
